Tallapoosa Coosa VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster)

At the Lake Martin Area United Way we strive to make a difference in our community by partnering with organizations that will benefit the people in our community.

What is TC VOAD?

Tallapoosa-Coosa VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) is a collaboration of diverse organizations and citizens trained to meet community needs when a large-scale natural or man-made disaster occurs in Tallapoosa or Coosa counties. VOAD was last activated in 2011 and 2012 when the tornadoes last hit our area.

VOAD coordinates the planning efforts and, during a disaster, matches community needs with services provided by member VOAD agencies, as well as coordinates volunteers and donations post-disaster and during the recovery period. One of our most important tasks is to support, through meal coordination and other support services, our first responders and local law enforcement as they do the front line job of recovery during a disaster situation.

VOAD members work to compliment and support our first responders and work closely with our local EMA Directors so that we may best support the needs of our communities during times of disaster, minimize miscommunication and duplication of services. VOAD organizes volunteers for any unmet needs beyond the capabilities of first responders and large scale service agencies like the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. VOAD volunteers may also be called out to supplement exisiting services, support clean-up efforts, or where ever they are most needed.
