Community Impact

At the Lake Martin Area United Way we strive to make a difference in our community.  We work hard to partner with and head up programs that will benefit our community and have the greatest impact.

We have several Community Initiatives / Programs to help further meet the needs of our communities. These programs include but are not limited to:

  • 211 Connects Alabama - 2-1-1 continues to be a vital program of United Way and an important resource to our community at-large in 2022. Our call center partners across the state were busy as ever taking calls to help with emergencies and every day needs. Available 24/7/365 to connect you to the resources you need. Connect online at https://www.211connectsalabama.org or call 2-1-1 or 1-888-421-1266.

  • Education Enrichment Program - Pre-COVID, we were proud to partner with Pediatric Associates and the Alexander City Board of Education to provide a FREE Children's Summer Reading Program to all school-age children in grades 1-5. Post-COVID, we continue to work to support our area school children who are taking summer school classes and enrichment classes to help them get back to pre-pandemic learning levels. We've provided free books, school supplies and celebratory popsicles the last couple years as a reward. If you would like more information, would like to donate to the goodies for the kids or volunteer, please contact our office at 256-329-3600.

  • Day of Action - each year, our United Way works with our area schools - one each in Alex City, Coosa County and Tallapoosa County to help them clean and beautify the schools during the summer months before the kids head back to school in August. Previous projects have included painting, landscaping, general cleaning, helping teachers move to new classrooms, and much more. In 2023, we held 2 Days of Action - one in June for Alexander City Schools and Tallapoosa County Schools and a second in July for Coosa County Schools. We had over 150 volunteers show up between the 2 days to help! We are in the planning stages for 2024 - again planning for 2 events - and look forward to announcing dates and locations ASAP! If you are interested in volunteering, please email courtney.layfield@unitedwaylakmartin.org to be notified of the upcoming events.
  • Home Depot Veterans Repair Program - In partnership with our local Home Depot, we work to renovate and repair veteran's homes to make them more livable and functional for their needs. Volunteers from Home Depot and other local volunteers work to do what is needed to fix up the homes of those that have bravely served our country. Interested veterans should stop by the Alexander City location and talk to a Team Depot representative and inquire about the qualifications and application process.

  • EFSP (Emergency Food & Shelter Program) - In partnership with area emergency disaster resources, we work to help provide assistance to those in times of need. This program helps to provide food and shelter through approved partner agencies and federally allocated funding.

Lake Martin Area United Way will not sell, share, or trade our list of donor information, so you can be confident that your contact information remains confidential.
