ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. – On Monday, December 5, SL Alabama presented the Lake Martin Area United Way (LMAUW) with a $100,000 one-time gift as part of their efforts to increase their charitable giving and dedication to the local community.
SL Alabama President, Kyungsoo Koo, believes it is imperative to support the local community and United Way is one part of that support network. “For years we’ve given to charitable organizations like United Way, the Sun Festival, our area schools and many others, and we know the extensive reach the Lake Martin Area United Way has across our community,” said Koo. “We know they will use this money where it is needed most.”
“We are so blessed and thankful to receive this generous gift from SL Alabama” said Abby Guy, LMAUW Board President. “We want to be purposeful in how this money is used to help in our community. There are so many needs and we want this gift to have a long-lasting impact. Our Board will be meeting soon to discuss how and where to best use these funds to help the most people.”
This donation will go toward the Lake Martin Area United Way’s 2023 Campaign, Because of You. “Our United Way is beyond grateful and humbled to receive such a generous gift from SL Alabama. SL has been a supporter of our United Way for many years, not just monetarily but also by volunteering at events like our Day of Action” said Executive Director, Courtney Layfield. “They have been a great community partner with us and we are honored that they see the good work we do across Coosa and Tallapoosa counties and want to further support our efforts and outreach.”
SL Alabama began its Alexander City operations in 2005 and produces headlights, taillights, and mirrors for Hyundai and Kia. They currently employ about 700 at their Alexander City location.
The Lake Martin Area United Way has been serving the residents of Coosa and Tallapoosa counties for over 30 years through their network of 27 partner agencies and 5 community outreach initiatives. Each year, approximately 20,000 individuals are touched through the work of the Lake Martin Area United Way, it’s partner agencies and initiatives. The Lake Martin Area United Way fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in Coosa and Tallapoosa Counties.
